Title: Evanescence - "Everybody's Fool" MV
Static Confusion - May 18, 2004 04:43 AM (GMT)
I know a few of you have already seen this, but for those who haven't, Evanescence recently premiered the new video on Launch.com, check it out, it's a really good, powerful, weird and interesting video, all at the same time...
http://us.rd.yahoo.com/launch/hp/vidchart/.../video/?1103685For those who have seen it, what did you think?
And do you think that the band (particularly Amy Lee) are trying to get a point across and make a statement with the video or not?

Ooo thanks, been trying to see this video..

Though it's probably the weirdest vid I have seen, I love it. The lyric really fits the vid too.. The scence where she's looking into the mirror and sings "Look here she comes now // bow down and stare in wonder // Oh how we love you // No flaws when you're pretending", I think that scence is what speakes the most. You see a parallell drawn between her drinking the soda in the ad and her drinking the alcohol or medicine or whatever it is in the bathroom.
Also in the beginning after she says "There's nothing like a good lie" and the people start putting on more make-up, you see her face change from smiling and innocent to sad almost. You really see that she hates it, that she thinks she's fake ... Everybody's Fool.
But yeah... She is definetly trying to get a point across with this vid. All her ads include the word Lies... I don't know, but to me it seems as though she's trying to tell us that Hollywood isn't all about the glitter and glam. It's all created by lies and fakeness. That the smilie isn't necessarily there because ..... is happy, it's there because ..... needs it to be there. If .... didn't smile the whole world would know who ..... is. Everybody would see past the lies and look underneath it all. Find out that .... is exactly the same as they are...

Do you think it's about her in particular then, or just in general?
aKira - May 18, 2004 09:32 AM (GMT)
No, just in general I think.. I think you could replace Amy with anyone and the vid would still be the same.. I kind of think it's more about the whole facade thing than Amy in particular.. Urgh, I can't formulate what I'm thinking right at the moment, but you get an idea of what I mean =/ Maybe =/ =|
Static Confusion - May 18, 2004 09:41 AM (GMT)
I get what you mean.
Just because it's her in the video doesn't directly mean it's about her. She's in the band, it'd be stupid not to have her in it, but at the same time it could be about her.
Look at all the pictures you see, she's always smiling, but their video's always seem to be a bit darker than that. I think there's something in there that's is about here, or about the band. Maybe trying to make people think about it before portraying them how they do.
The media portray them as just another band that's being played by the record industry, and they don't exactly do much to back up the fact that they're not, if you can understand what I mean. If you've read interviews and stuff (which I think you have...) you'd know that Amy's been through quite a bit, and it wasn't easy to get to where she is, yet in her appearance in public, she still gives that impression.
I'm probably thinking way to far into this, but meh...
I understand what you mean, you could put someone else there and still formulate the same situation, but then that brings up the point; why didn't they do that?
aKira - May 18, 2004 11:23 AM (GMT)
You really are going deep into this, but you're making really good points =)
I have read a lot of interviews, and yes, she always talks about how hard it was for her to get to where she is today. An example is when she first met Ben on a christian camp. She was really alone, and in interviews she's also stated that she was lonely all through her childhood and early teens really. Anyway, it does appear as it was easy to get to where she is today because of the way she acts. To be honest, Amy does come off as a bitch sometimes; In and interview about the whole Ben leaving thing she was really cold hearted and acted as though she didn't care that he had left. I don't really think she did neither, she never made the impression that she did anyway...
I agree with you saying that there is something more about her or the band in the video and stuff.. You're making too many good points -.- =P
I don't know why they didn't.. You (or the both of us now) may be overanalyzing the video right now.. maybe they just wanted Amy simply because she's the lead singer and the face of the band. All the vidoes have been about her. BMTL - Mostly her and a little Paul McCoy , GU - Her singing and drowning + a little Ben , MI - More Ben in this one but that was because the vid is about him breaking away from the band. They were never together , and now EF - Her and some other random actors...
I don't know.. There might be something more to it, and I do believe there is, but at the same time there may not be anything to it at ll =/

True, I think I read that interview.
It's the media though, they'll do anything within their power to twist people words without actually changing them. Magazines can't show emotion. You can say something one way and reading it can portray another.
Maybe, makes for good discusion anyway =)
What do you mean when you say "They were never together"?
So, I read a little of the Kerrang! interview, I'll read it in full later, but a few main points stood out, that kinda come under this subject.
First is;
| QUOTE |
"What's fueling her words right now, however, is the new promo video for 'Everybody's Fool', their fourth, that her band have just finished shooting, which apparently sports a somewhat humorous vibe, with Lee acting out the part of an angst-ridden TV advert star and her bandmates dressed as bikers. "This new video," she grins, "it's definately showing new sides of me, how I can be cheesy and kind of silly. You'll see, it's great"" |
Second;
| QUOTE |
| "Is it all about the business? I don't know anything about the business. I couldn't give a shit about the business" |
I'm not sure if that's talking about the video as a whole, or maybe just the advert bits. I think, judging by that, that we may have looked too far into, though, did they really expect to make a video without this kind of thing?
As for the second, well, that doesn't really have much to do with this, but I thought I'd get people's opinions on that aswell...
Only other point I have to make is that Amy looks fucking hot in the articles pictures =P
aKira - May 19, 2004 08:53 PM (GMT)
Yeah, true.. Magazines are evil really =|
Yeah =)
Oh, well, I read this thing somewhere about how the MI was made to "tell" their fans in a sense that Ben was leaving. Ben was never around Amy at all. This could of course have had to do with the whole concept of MI, but someone on Evboard said it they did it on purpose.
1. That was kind of stupid to say of Amy. A lot of people out there will look at the vid and think that it's reaching out to them, it might even help them out of whatever possision they're in. And then when they'll read that interview they'll see that there was nothing more to the vid than to make something cool to watch.. I hope they're just talking about the advert thingies =/
2. Again I think "what the fuck is she doing". If she's commited to her work she'd understand some of the businiss as well. Like no offence or anything, but that's my opinion.. If she doesn't give a shit about the businiss, well understandeble enough, I hope she focuses extra hard on her singing performance and interviews and stuff like that.. =/
Oh god, you teenie =P
Static Confusion - May 19, 2004 09:01 PM (GMT)
Hmm, that's interesting... I know it was made just before they split, so I guess it could be... It's just like this I guess it depends how you lok at it...
1. I get what you mean.. I don't really know what else to say about that. It's quite a deep video, that comment just kinda takes all that away =/
2. Depends which way you look at it. The way I read that is "I couldn't give a shit about the business", meaning music in general. Music is a buisness, that's reality, how you treat it is what you need to worry about.
I think she meant it how you were saying though...
Hehe.
aKira - May 19, 2004 09:09 PM (GMT)
Indeed =P.. Yeah. I've chosen to look at it like that though. I also think there is a deeper meaning to it as well though..
1. Yes, stupid of her to say something like that..
2. Didn't think of it that way. If she meant it that way she needs a bloody good slap in the face.
Hopefully..
I guess I'll have to read the whole thing for this dicussion to carry on =/
Static Confusion - May 21, 2004 11:01 PM (GMT)
Yeah... I need to read it fully too =/
