Thanks to LPTimes for the info

Edit: Here's the transcript thanks to deadhybrid for editing it:

SarahThomas(10:06): How much of the new album would you say is more agressive and how much with softer songs?

mshinoda(10:07): i don't know yet. we're still working on it. we have narrowed it down to about 30-50 songs, andsome of those are heavy, some are softer, and some are in between.

ScatteredEchos(10:07):
You must have quite a few songs that you could have played at the Summer Sonic shows- why did you choose QWERTY? It’s a really great song- and by Summer Sonic After so many people were singing a long, I can't wait to see you guys again when you come to UK!

mshinoda(10:08):
the song known as "qwerty" -- a rough title BTW -- is actually still in progress. we did those lyrics on the plane on the way to japan! i'm not sure if it'll make the album, but we liked the song enough to play it!

mshinoda(10:09):
i see guitar tabs and lyrics floating around online--they're not perfect, but they're close.

System32(10:09):
hi mike, in the next album you will make some kind of collaboration with other bands like Korn, Adema or others ?

mshinoda(10:10):
on the next album - collaborations? we don't really ever do collabos on our proper studio albums, and i think we're going to stick to that for now. we don't have any plans to work with other artists at this point.

spikeShinnizle(10:10):
Mike, opinion please - to settle an argument: independent marketing (i.e. highly organized [and selective] worldwide street team) + external distribution company vs. major company marketing and distribution =)

mshinoda(10:14):
independent marketing vs. external distribution vs. major label -- it depends on your group / band / artist. if you're peaches or MF doom, independent will let you

mshinoda(10:14):
do things that are less commonly accepted, if you're shakira, you should probably go major.

twix(10:14):
Hey there, hope all the recording of the new album is going well. I was curious if you can see LP releasing a new single and music video before the end of 2006? or would it be more realistic to see a new (studio recorded) song & video in early 2007?

mshinoda Кому (10:15):
i don't know how soon...

mshinoda(10:15):
origianlly, we thought we'd have an album out at the end of this year, but at this point we don't see that happening. we're doing really well, but we just need a little more time.

mshinoda(10:16):
that's why we thought we'd play the new song live, to give you a little insight into how things are going.

The Riz(10:17):
Will your next albumn finally have a power balled?

mshinoda(10:17):
i thought "easier to run" might have been a power ballad. but not that we have any intention of making one--that's just what the song decided to be.

mshinoda(10:17):
but

mshinoda(10:18):
if you mean power ballad like whitesnake / poison / LA guns / boston, then maybe we're not ready for that yet.

The Riz(10:18):
Who would win in a game of horse; Brad, you or Phoenix?

mshinoda(10:19):
horse: joe won yesterday. phoenix would probably beat me. i'll be able to tell you better by the end of the album ;)

VetaLP(10:19):
Mike, in your recent KROQ interview you've talked about the things you don't know what genre to put in. is it about new musical instruments or something deeper?

mshinoda(10:21):
genre: i just think the styles we're mixing right now are all over the place. we have really been pushing things outside the box.

mshinoda(10:22):
but even like my fort minor album--it's a hip hop album, but a lot of the stuff isn't conventional. the LP album won't sound like FM. but it has it's own unique sound that still sounds like LP--justdifferent.

uael0co(10:22):
hi mike, i wanted to ask you if you will ever go back to your ''Xero'' style of rapping?..i mean it was a little bit different back then,,it had more flare, personal opinion though...We all love you here in the United Arab Emirates plz come visit us soon

mshinoda(10:23):
xero: i rap how i rap...thanks for the luv. every time, i just try and say something that's on my mind.

underground260(10:24):
Hi Mike!! Not having released a proper (new) linkin park album since meterora which was over 3.5 years ago, are you worried about losing fans who didnt want to wait around ?

mshinoda(10:25):
was it 3.5 years? it doesn't feel like it...but the xero song (reading my eyes) we played recently in japan is almost 10 years old, so i guess it's just a reminder how time flies...to answer your question

mshinoda(10:26):
i think the fans will be there if they like the music. it doesn't metter how long you're gone, if fans like what they're hearing, they'll be fans. look at green day or metallica.

whomurrybe(10:25):
How did the back to school project in New Orleans turn out? Successful? Any progress made? Or just any general impressions from your trip? Kudos to all involved in that, by the way.

mshinoda(10:26):
NEW ORLEANS:

mshinoda(10:27):
that's just starting. we're going out there september 7-12 (it's just after the one year anniversary of the hurricane)...

mshinoda(10:27):
for those who don't know, go to friendsandhelpers.org and click on the hurricane katrina link

mshinoda(10:28):
i hope you all can help out in some way--if you're in LA, drop stuff off at mr. hahn's shop (SURU on MELROSE) -- you can also shop at target online and buy stuff to be sent directly

mshinoda(10:29):
so go to friendsandhelpers.org and find out more. fort minor, linkin park, music for relief, nine inch nails, DC shoes, ecko, and others are supporting it. it's basically a back-to-school charity to

mshinoda(10:30):
get school supplies to the kids who need them / who were displaced by the hurricane

analogue(10:29):
From your own personal experience what would you say are the advantages and dis-advantages to working on a solo album? Sorry but i can't think of any questions for the new LP album

mshinoda(10:31):
fort minor album: it was fun to do. i had a great time working on different types of music and doing my own thing. it was a nice break. the only disadvantage is that

mshinoda(10:32):
if there are any criticisms, they fall on me individually. but that's okay, i'm proud of the record and when people tell me they like it, that's a great feeling.

Astat(10:33):
speaking of reading my eyes, how was the whole process of bringing that song back, and do you plan to continue playing it? i would imagine it took a bit of work, especially with chester not being the original singer on the track.

mshinoda(10:34):
RME: we actually just got the idea while we were in rehearsal. once we figured out the first few notes, the whole song came back to us. that was pretty cool, seeing as how

mshinoda Кому(10:34):
we hadn't played it in almost 8 years

mshinoda(10:34):
maybe more?

mshinoda(10:34):
we actually had to download it online to remember how the song started!

BumbleBee(10:35):
hey Michael, I've always wanted to know your opinion on moleculor structuing of cloned farm animals & the ways in which this may benefit modern healthcare.
(also, I would also like to add that I think you boys are doing a wonderful thing for New Orleans)..

mshinoda(10:35):
ha

mshinoda(10:36):
i'm not an expert on cloned farm animals. i don't know enough to have an opinion at this point. but i think making a hybrid cow / chicken would look hilarious. maybe a cow with a beak?

mshinoda(10:36):
a chicken with udders?

mshinoda(10:36):
that said "moo"

BeyondLimitsFMLP(10:37):
Hey Mike. I was wondering. I remembering hearing that FM was going to appear on Lil Jon's "Crunk Rock" album. Is this true? Also how would you compare songs from the "Meteora" album to the new one?

mshinoda(10:37):
crunk rock: we haven't heard about it.

mshinoda(10:38):
new album: it will sound familiar, and you will recognize it as LP; butso far it has a different sound that i cannot describe. it sounds like it's older, but not vintage. more organic in some spots, like

mshinoda(10:39):
just yesterday we recorded a song with no samples that is completely raw. other songs are full of samples. lots of variety at this point--but we don't know which songs will make the final album.

cuzer(10:38):
hi Mike! will the new cd have some special edition, LPTV or something different?when LPTV be released?loves from Poland!!

mshinoda(10:40):
you'll have to keep an eye on LP.com and LPU.com for info on any LPTV stuff...thanks

BNCMajor(10:37):
hi mike, if you write lyrics, do write things that happened just to you or also stories that you heard from other people? Or is everthing just fiction? because sometimes when listen to your songs, it's like somebody tells a story about my life

mshinoda(10:40):
lyrics:

mshinoda(10:41):
lyrics: nothing is fiction. everything is from real life. a lot of it is made of morphed stories that are part chester and part me, because we write together sometimes. since

mshinoda(10:42):
we're both writing from our own experiences, the ideas of the songs tend to blend together in that way. we basically just try to depict the root emotion as accurately as possible.

mshinoda(10:42):
for example:

mshinoda(10:43):
my memory of a fight with someone, and chester's memory of a fight with someone could have very little in common at face value. but the root emotions of maybe not being respected or feeling disappointed -- those are the same

darthyak2001(10:43):
How far along you guys are with the new album and are you happy with the direction it is going in musically so far? Oh, and how about a Holiday song for New Years? :-D perhaps about cows going Moo? <3 from modsquad! -PTT & DarthYak

mshinoda(10:44):
new album: this is the most fun i have ever had recording an LP album. it's been great. rick rubin is a great coach--he just keeps us pointed in the right direction, and we push as hard as we can.

mshinoda(10:45):
our music taste (LP and rick) are so eclectic, it's fun to work together.

dcn2509(10:45):
just wondering, will there be any new additions to the album that people who know the 'Linkin Park' sound would not have expected ( i.e instruments, live gear) ?

mshinoda(10:46):
good question--i cannot divulge that information it's secret

mshinoda(10:46):
wait and see!

Demeteora(10:46):
Hi Mike, could you tell us whether there will be some more optimistic songs [like somewhere I belong and Breaking the habit] in the new album?

mshinoda(10:47):
our songs have always has a little darker tinge to them, that's just our sensibility. the lyrics are still just beginning, so i don't know where they'll end up. i would like to have as much variety as possible on the album, though. i just don't like to

mshinoda(10:47):
write silly happy songs.

elentaari(10:48):
Where is your favorite place to just relax and write lyrics or read?

mshinoda(10:49):
i like to relax in LA mostly, but i also like hawaii, japan, and the carribean. cabo san lucas is nice as well. more specifically,

mshinoda(10:49):
i like sand and ocean. but i also like snow. i don't know (ha)

elpolloloco(10:49):
Because "Remember The Name" gained some popularity after being used for various commercials and advertisements on TV over the course of the past few months, as well as having the video for the song getting exposure on MTV, why do you feel like Fort Minor

mshinoda(10:49):
FM:

mshinoda(10:51):
warner bros. is heading the charge on the REMEMBER THE NAME single...we think that it's a nice way to go out on this album--the song has been such a cult hit in the sports

mshinoda(10:52):
world, and people all over have requested it for other things. we're hoping to do a new video for it--the concept for it is really cool, i think. i hope that works out.

Elishia(10:51):
is there already some new art made for the new album? if so is it like the set we saw at summer sonic?

mshinoda(10:52):
new art: it's still in the works. sorry i don't have more info on that one. but on another art-related note

mshinoda(10:54):
i am planning to do my first galley art show (exciting!) -- it will be in LA. i don't know the date yet, but i want to show all the original paintings from the fort minor artwork, plus a handfull of new ones. all

mshinoda(10:54):
all the paintings are acrylic / spraypaint / ink on canvas, and range from 24x24" to 36x48" in size.

mshinoda(10:55):
there will be paintings from private collections (mostly from my bandmates) and a bunch that none of you have ever seem.

mshinoda(10:55):
seen.

friendly444999(10:55):
Where did you get the inspiration for RIGHT NOW on The Rising Tied? It inspired a huge 30 by 40 angel painting I did for my church.

mshinoda(10:56):
RIGHT NOW: that's really cool! i got the idea from one of my favorite movies -- a film called "short cuts" by robert altman. check it out!

mshinoda(10:57):
it's a really unique drama about over a dozen people and how their lives are woven together, even though they don't know each other.

FelipeLP(10:56):
Hey Mike...What's the diference to work with Don Gilmore and Rick Rubin? Thanks! Brazil loves LP!!

mshinoda(10:58):
DON vs RICK - don was alot of fun to work with on HT and meteora because he's really silly in the studio, and he makes great, exciting rock records. he has a very distinctive style

mshinoda(10:59):
rick is a legend. he's one of the most respected producers of all time. we can listen to a song one time, and immediately give you five things that you can do to it that will make it better. he knows his way around

mshinoda(11:00):
just about every type of music, and can really get your ideas and momentum going

Hybrid911(11:00):
Howdy Mike: Do you feel you have grown as a person as your life in Linkin Park goes on? like, do you feel as though you've changed due to your experiences and you're a 'different' Mike than what you were before LP took off? How does this effect you?

mshinoda(11:01):
just like most people, i keep growing every day. i think it's important for me to learn something new every chance i get,

mshinoda(11:03):
someone told me that it's our goal in life to be ahppy...andthe things that usually frustrate us are the things that aren't in our control...the one thing that we have control over is oursleves,

mshinoda(11:03):
and as long as we exercise that control in a positive way, we'll be happy.

mshinoda(11:03):
cheesy but true, i think.

G00dguy(11:02):
do u ever get cabin fever on tour?

mshinoda(11:04):
cabin fever: Y E S. gotta get out and do stuff or you go crazy.

hellcloud(11:04):
Hi Mike and greetings from Germany... so you didn't play A Place for my Head on the Summer Sonic festival, which is a great song i think, especially when you're in the crowd... You aren't planning to never play it in concert again, are you?

mshinoda(11:05):
hellcloud: the band wanted to play these songs...APFMH was a question, but we decided to include reading my eyes instead. hope you liked it

LukiSlo(11:07):
can we expect "parental advisory" on the cover new album?

mshinoda(11:08):
PA: i don't know yet...there are a few cursewords at this point, but i don't know what's going to happen with that. not a big deal, i think.

JayLucH(11:08):
Story of heavy metal(I tink),this classifides LP in a genre called “new rock”,do u agree with this or do u,like myself tink u belong in a genre all by urselfs?from deepest, darkest south Africa, from the boers n hobbo’s,we all luv u guys!

mshinoda(11:10):
NEW ROCK: i don't know what that means. i think genres don't every really describe the bands in them, unless the genre was created to describe on band's sound (if that band started it), so

mshinoda(11:10):
i don't feel lkike we're new rock. is breaking the habit new rock? is somewhere i belong new rock? i don't know.

lpman2 (11:08):
Hi « Spike Shinizzle « , my name is Arthur, I’m French and I’d like to know if u are satisfied of your Ibanez RG 321 MH, do u use a Di’Marzio D-Sonic Pickup on it ? You know, I’d like to buy this guitar but she’s not really expensive (about 320 $) so

mshinoda (11:11):
ibanez w dimarzio - it's great for that more metal sound. i haven't been using it that much lately, but i love it when i want to play some metal.

InTheEnd6008(11:09):
hi Mike. can u tell us what will be on LPU 6.0 cd? maybe songs from SS? my friend really want listen Pushing My Away from Summer Sonic - that was really cool! and are you play more new songs on concerts before premier new album? polish fans say "hi!"

mshinoda(11:12):
LPU 6 CD -- don't know yet, but we want to make it REALLY good. more info to come, but i hope we can make it one of the best CDs yet.

K8ee(11:10):
What do you do to cheer yourself up whenever you feel really insecure or down and/or miss your family whilst touring?

mshinoda(11:13):
K8ee: to cheer myself up, i usually talk to and hang out with friends. i play a lot of video games too--i decided it's like meditating for me (except i get to blow stuff up)

KageJisonshin(11:10):
sup mike u sed u have like 50 songs made...do u think u will use ur extra songs to make CDs or would u guys start from scratch when u do another new album?

mshinoda(11:14):
KageJisonshin: we don't usually reuse songs. just never really feel like it. if the song isn't good enough to be released, it's not good enough period, you know?

mshinoda(11:15):
boxset - never really tried to do one yet. someday.

keineAhnung(11:11):
greetz from fort minor germany crew...is there any difference between working with lp on ht/meteora to now, after having released a soloalbum? (btw...fm concert in hamburg was awesome...worth that 15h trainride ;p)

mshinoda(11:16):
keineAhnung: thanks! i love my FM and LP families the same. FM may have sold a lot less than LP, but it doesn't affect how i feel about the songs. still stand behind the stuff ;)

LPfanatic604(11:11):
heyyz Mike!!! Do you guys have a name for the next album and will we see these paintings that you are showing online somewhere like will you give us a link to see them??? also my little sister says hi! lots of love from Connecticut!!!

mshinoda(11:16):
LPfanatic604: more info to come on fortminor.com (maybe myspace too)

mshinoda(11:19):
i have to go make some music. have a great day everyone. don't forget to check out that friendsandhelpers.org site, and keep supporting FM and LP...you guys are the best ever. later!

mshinoda(11:19):
oh yeah, and i'll give more info on that art show when i get it together -- details on fortminor.com and myspace.com/fortminor

mshinoda(11:20):
